Day 5 AM: Christ the Redeemer at the Corcovado Mountain, Lunch at Delirio Tropical, Ipanema Beach!
It’s another beautiful sunshiney day, Happy Soles!
The summer here in Rio de Janeiro is truly endless and we are off to yet another adventure, this time to the most iconic spot in Rio, the Christ the Redeemer!
The Christ the Redeemer, or O Cristo Redentor in Portuguese, is considered the largest art deco statue in the world. The statue is 39.6 metres (130 ft) tall, including its 9.5 meter (31 feet) pedestal, and 30 metres (98 ft) wide. It weighs 635 tons, and is located at the peak of the 700 metres (2,300 ft) Corcovado mountain in the Tijuca Forest National Park overlooking the city.

Here we are holding our tickets and making our way through the snaking path climbing up the Corcovado mountain.

I’ve only seen this in the movies before and up close, it really is breathtaking!
On 7 July 2007, it was named one of the new seven wonders of the world. Brazil, like in the Philippines, has Catholics making up the majority, and the statue can be seen at any point in Rio de Janeiro, giving one the feeling that Jesus Christ is watching over the entire city.

Group hug with the Christ the Redeemer, Ammiel and Cristiane!

No other photo says we have been to Rio de Janeiro better than this one.

The site offers a 360-degree panoramic view of breathtaking Rio.

Famished after all that photo op once again! Cristiane then took us to lunch at Delirio Tropical in Ipanema. Brazilians eat very healthy — it shows on the bodies that they have! — and we have been loving the foodie experience that Cristiane has treated us to. Here I am getting all giddy over my grilled salmon and salad lunch.

Chico poses with his bean soup before gobbling up all his lunch.
Wait, have I mentioned that we were in Ipanema? Yes, the famous Ipanema beach was just a 2 minute stroll!

We didn’t bring our swimsuits with us so we settled for a quick group photo. Now I know better the next time I’m in Rio, you should always be ready to take off your clothes and run and take a dip at the beach!

You know that famous samba bossa nova song, “The Girl from Ipanema”?
Tall and tanned and young and lovely
the girl from Ipanema goes walking
and when she passes
each man she passes
goes Aaah!
I strutted by the beach feeling like that song was written for me. Haha! A girl can dream.
We went back to the Porto Bay hotel to catch some forty winks because tonight, I have a feeling, woohoo, that tonight’s gonna be a good night. We need all the energy we can get for some SAMBA!
Cheers,
Farrah
